What do you mean: Campaigning?
It’s about speaking up for those whose voice has been quietened - those for whom the impact of crisis has left them weak.
Campaigning & local mobilisation is all about finding out what the local drivers of poverty are. Then asking what needs to change to make that no longer an issue. So many of the causes of crisis for the community don’t arise because of that individual but rather due to a system designed not to help those in need at their most vulnerable point. Campaigning is designed to stand up against this.
Did you know that you can be political without affiliating with a particular party? We want the policies to change - we don’t care who does the changing. Our role is to work with the local community to speak up against injustices against whomever is in power, not just against a particular party or group of people.
At Cefnogi we want to capture the real stories of poverty as experienced by the local community so that we’re working towards changing the right things, both locally and nationally. If you’d like to be involved in the process or just want to learn more about this project then GET IN TOUCH

What is your role with Cefnogi?
My role is to meet with local people, particularly those facing tough times or who have recently experienced crisis point, to listen to their story and learn. My goal is to find out if there are common themes for people in Ammanford & the surrounding areas, then use that information to campaign for change to prevent others from having to face this injustice.
What causes have you discovered?
As we’re in a largely rural setting, public transport is a large sustainer of crisis locally. Both the lack of it and high costs make it largely inaccessible on a regular basis without severe impact on other areas of a household budget. Other areas that are coming forward include the lack of provision for those that have experience of the Criminal Justice system, the need for emergency accommodation for anyone homeless as well as the great shortage of one-bedroom houses.
What’s your aim for 2025?
This year I want to focus on a couple of things, one more immediate and the other longer-term. For the immediate future I’d like to see more men & woman with experience of the Criminal Justice system better equipped for their return to civilisation, including better financial support from the welfare system earlier prior to release. For the longterm I’m working on a campaign for emergency accommodation in the local area. At the moment the only offering is Station Road in Llanelli - this isn’t good enough. Add the poor & expensive public transport, those in need are often cut off from what little support network they have. I want to see some offering of emergency accommodation in the Ammanford area.
